This is part IV in the student voices. This writing discusses how we lack in environmental concerns and how it is harmful to our future. It was written by seventh grade students Marc and Ethan.
We care about the earth because we live in it. We use everything in the environment. if we don’t protect it, then trees will die. Trees help produce oxygen, and we as humans breathe in oxygen. Plants also breathe carbon and let oxygen. Humans breathe oxygen and let out carbon dioxide. We also like to grow crops, and the soil needs to be good. Some people don’t understand how climate change destroys crops. If we keep messing with the environment, then it will start to deteriorate; this will cause our livelihood and our passion to suffer. The environment helps keep us alive. Trees and plants help with many things.
Humans use a lot of nonrenewable resources, such as oil. Oil is important in the US. It’s used for cars another automobiles. It’s also used for other things, but mainly for cars. Drilling for oil hurts the environment for several reasons: it causes earthquakes, sinkholes, and oil spills. Those oil spills or harmful to the ocean life and to humans.
Pollution could happen anywhere. It can happen in the air and bodies of water. Over 10,000 animals are effected by pollution every day. The Great Barrier Reef there’s more than 100 miles of garbage on the seafloor. The ocean is just splattered with polluted places on earth. Recycling can lead to the cleansing of our planet. Please recycle.
You can show you care about the environment by calling either one/or both of our Senators, Senator Lankford’s office at (202) 224-5754 and Senator Inhofe’s office at (202) 224-4721, and asking them to cosponsor H.R. 5031, the Challenges and Prizes for Climate Act of 2018.
